What is Fabulous anyway? And who gets to define it? That's a great question!
Hi, I'm Lisa Barry, a radio DJ who's been in pursuit of a fabulous life for 20 years and I'm here to help you get unstuck from an average life and give you the tools and secrets to create a fabulous one.
It's maybe easier to define fabulous if we first talk about what it's not. We need to unhook misconceptions before we can conceptualize "FABULOUS" in an accurate way. Fabulous does not mean a collection of enviable possessions, position and fame. What? Why? Because those things are temporary, fluid, they come and go. A life can't be fabulous if it's constantly going through highs and lows like a boat in a hurricane! That's chaos. Is it wrong to have possessions and position and fame? Not at all but they make a very collapse-prone foundation. It would be like laying the foundation of your new house with rolls of wall paper instead of cement blocks. By contrast, a FABULOUS life's foundation is built with universal, immovable principles.
I know It's easy to picture a fabulous life as living in a mansion with unlimited money to spend however you want. Sure! I'd like that too! But that's merely a dream. A desire. A thing. It's not a principle to build on. It's not what makes a life fabulous.
Just ask lottery winners and people who have inherited boatloads of money. They'll be the first to tell you, money did not make them happy like they thought it would. Now, I'm not suggesting everyone with money is unhappy, but if indeed they are happy, it's not because of money it's because they built their life on principles that money can't ruin.
Believe me when I tell you I'm all for financial security; we need it to live comfortably. But we have to keep it in the right perspective. Don't ask it to do more than it's capable of. It's like expecting a watch to get you to appointments on time. It can't. It can only give you the data you need so YOU can get to your appointments on time.
I remember hearing Kathie Lee Gifford once say that "money doesn't make you happy, it just makes some things easier". I think that's right. In order to have a FABULOUS life, we need to balance both wishes and dreams with immovable principles.
If money were necessary for a fabulous life, then only those with financial means would be happy. But you know what's crazy? Often the reverse is true. Some of the happiest people in the world live on next to nothing! Conversely, as we discussed, some of the wealthiest people in the world are very unhappy. I realize you might be rolling your eyes at this point and I get it. I've often
thought, 'who cares if money can't make me happy, let me have a crack at it and
see if I can be the exception!'
Who knows, maybe you will be super wealthy someday. The beauty of this is no matter if you're wealthy or not, it won't affect your ability to have a FABULOUS life! in fact, I'd encourage you to memorize this sentence...
"If it can't work everywhere, it can't work anywhere!"
In other words, the principles I'm sharing to make a Fabulous life HAVE to work everywhere, no matter what you have or where you live. Or they are no foundation at all. The principles of a fabulous life have to be irrespective of circumstances, finances, health and opportunities. Isn't that the best news ever?! Let's keep going.
