7. Tell Me What You Really Really DON'T Want

Tools needed: Highlighter, FABSHEET-WANT (or notebook paper) and pencil


Knowing what you really don't want is key to your fabulous life.


Hi, I'm Lisa Barry, a radio DJ who's been in pursuit of a fabulous life for 20 years and I'm here to help you get unstuck from an average life and give you the tools and secrets to create a fabulous one.


Let's be specific. So far you've identified everything you want in life, narrowed that down to 10 and then 5. Now we're going to do the same with the right side. We're going to narrow down the things you don't want in life. Out of the many things you listed that you 'don't want', let's narrow that list down to 10 using a pencil. Put a star by the top 10 things you don't want. Pause here to do that.


Now, take your highlighter, go over that same list and highlight 5 of those 10 items as the things you REALLY don't want. These are your strongest dislikes.


The reason we're focusing on the 'Don't Wants' is because sometimes they interrupt us from getting the things we want. These are the negative things that can take up a lot of time and energy if we're not careful to keep an eye on them. For example, if one of your 'Wants' is to start a new business, but you absolutely don't want to work more than part-time, that may encroach upon your ability to create a new business.


There's no way to turn that negative into a 'Want' but it's still very important to deal with, which is why you need to put that thing you DON'T want, down on paper so you can recognize conflicts between the things you want and the things you don't want. Similarly, if one of your WANTS is to be more positive, but you spend a lot of time with people who are cynical and disgruntled, you need to do something about the conflict between what you want and what is. For example, at some point, even though you still have those cynical people in your life, you may need to adjust your life so they don't get to have unlimited access to you and what you're trying to accomplish.


So continue to go through your list, perhaps changing your mind as you go. Highlight the strongest 5 things out of 10 that you have the strongest feelings about. Things you definitely don't want in your life. Once you're finished with that click here for the next step and take out your FABSHEET-WHY or take out a fresh piece of notebook paper.
