Here's one of our traditions that we absolutely cherish and I hand it over to you in the hopes you think it's fabulous too. Every Christmas, usually on Dec 26th after all the gifts were open, under the tree and wrapping paper smooshed into the garbage can, we would do our Christmas Chat.
It consisted of our immediate family (you can expand that if you want to). We would set up the video camera on one end of the living room and we'd all get positioned in front of the Christmas tree with lights on and I'd hit "record" and then run over to the family, sit down, and we'd begin.
My husband Ken would always start by saying Merry Christmas and the year it was. Then he'd give a short overview of what had gone on in the family since last Christmas. How our jobs were going, if there were any new additions to the family, or any losses we were feeling tender about. I would go next and finally, the girls. THAT was the funniest part! Sometimes they were too little to say anything. Other times they were shy, or wanting to show every single gift they got that year. It was such a precious snapshot of where we were in our growth and development as a family and even though we've missed a few years as the girls left the nest and started their own families, it's a tradition I want to make mandatory every year. But you know how that goes.
Here's a sample or two of how these went. What a treasure!
